About Sports Massage

Sports massage is a deep form of soft tissue mobilisation. It is a more targeted and focused massage working on certain areas of the body. It can be used to speed up an athlete’s recovery time, help with muscle soreness and injury prevention. During physical activity, especially strenuous physical activity, muscle tension builds up in the body’s soft tissue muscles. Due to overextension or overuse, minor adhesions and imbalances occur within these tissues that can cause tightness, pain and poor athletic performance.

Sports massage helps alleviate pain and prevent injuries that can affect movement, mobility, flexibility, strength and overall performance in training. Sports massage is also ideal to combat tension and pain caused by modern working lifestyles, such as prolonged sitting.

Benefits of the Sports Massage include:

  • Prevent injury and loss of mobility
  • Restore mobility to injured muscles
  • Increase performance levels
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Reduce muscular tension
  • Improves circulation

Pre-event massage:

A pre-event massage is used before activity to prepare the body for exercise. It can help reduce tight muscles, reduce acute pain and reduce pre-event stress. The aim is to stimulate the body and focus the mind.

Post-event massage:

A post-event massage can decrease muscles soreness or cramping. It can also facilitate a faster return to training after an athletic event. Lactic acid is dispersed from overworked muscles to help the healing process and prevent microtrauma. Recovery time can be improved by preventing fluid accumulating in the tissues.
